Wedding season is upon us and while the weather may not be making many happy brides so far this year, a good party will always turn the day around. It’s the same all over the world, there are some songs that no bride wants played, but once the champagne starts to flow she’s the first one up and telling the DJ to put it on. So if you’re going to a wedding in France, don’t worry about having the Grease megamix blasting out of the speakers, you’re going to need to know the songs that get everyone up and dancing. Here’s my countdown of the wedding songs you hear all summer in France!
All the best French wedding songs
Téléphone – Ça (C’est Vraiment Toi)
Your cousin in his mid-thirties would’ve grown up listening to this if he was French.
Indochine – L’aventurier
You’ll forget you’re in the community centre function room and be taken on a jungle adventure.
Claude François – Alexandrie Alexandra
Everyone’s parents will be up and out of their seats for this one but everyone big and small will be giving it everything with their “Rrrrah, aaahhh!” imagining they are “Claudettes”.
Matmatah – Lambé An Dro
This is a feel good song for the disaffected youth of the 80’s and 90’s, saying that even in the worst of times there’s a place you can go to turn things around.
Francky Vincent – Fruit de la passion
This one is for later in the night when the kids have gone to bed and the booze has done its work. Inhibitions no longer exist and you’ll see middle-aged hip movement like never before.
ZoukMachine – La musique dans la peau
Nobody knows the lyrics except the chorus which talks about various household chores.
Emile & Images – Les démons de minuit
A song about letting loose; be prepared to hear voices cracking when everyones tries to hit the high notes.
A la Queuleuleu
Every bride begs for it not to be played because it’s tacky, but somehow, whether you like it or not, it ends up being played. This is the song which proves the human need to do a conga line!
Dalida – Laissez moi danser
Another golden oldie for your parents to remember their wild youth.
Les Rita Mitsouko – Marcia Baila
